EU-hosted records & GDPR

Your health data, explained without the legalese

Where your records live, who can see them, how long we keep them and what you can ask us to do.

How your data is protected

The safeguards behind every NOVAGP.IE consultation — tap any card for the detail.

Where your records are kept

Everything you share with us — your history, notes, prescriptions and letters — is stored on servers located in the European Union, under Irish and EU data protection law. If any service provider we use operates outside the EU, that transfer is covered by Standard Contractual Clauses.

Who can see your file

The GP treating you, and our administrative team where they need it to run your appointment or process a prescription. Nobody else. We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.

What we share, and only with your say-so

At booking you tell us your own GP's details and choose Yes, No, or that you are not registered with a GP. We only send your consultation notes onward if you chose Yes. You can change your mind for future consultations.

How long we keep it

Clinical records are kept for as long as Irish medical record retention guidance requires, because that is a legal duty of any general practice. Payment records are kept as long as Revenue requires. Anything we no longer need is deleted.

The rights you can use today

You can see your record, get a copy of it, ask us to correct anything wrong, ask us to delete data we are not legally obliged to keep, and object to certain processing. Most of this is one click in your patient portal.

If you are unhappy

Email admin@novagp.ie and we will look into it. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission in Ireland at dataprotection.ie.

Exercising your rights

  • Download a copy of your record from the patient portal
  • Ask us to correct anything inaccurate by emailing admin@novagp.ie
  • Request deletion of data we are not legally required to retain
  • Withdraw consent to share notes with your own GP at any time
