Sharing with your own GP is required

Sharing this consultation and the agreed treatment with your own GP is mandatory if you have a GP in Ireland. Continuity of care is a core IMC requirement for mental health treatment.

What we can help with

  • Assessment of mild to moderate anxiety, low mood / depression, stress and sleep problems in adults (18+)
  • Validated screening with PHQ-9 (depression) and GAD-7 (anxiety), completed before the consultation
  • Starting or continuing first-line antidepressants (SSRIs, e.g. sertraline, citalopram, escitalopram, fluoxetine) with review in 2–4 weeks
  • Short-term non-addictive symptom relief where clinically appropriate (e.g. propranolol for physical anxiety symptoms where not contraindicated)
  • Referral to HSE SilverCloud (free guided online CBT, 18+), Counselling in Primary Care (CIPC via your GP) and self-help resources
  • Medical certificate where clinically justified

Not included in this service

  • Benzodiazepines (e.g. diazepam, alprazolam, lorazepam), Z-drugs (zopiclone, zolpidem), pregabalin, gabapentin, stimulants (ADHD medicines) and opioids — controlled or dependence-forming medicines are not prescribed remotely
  • Lithium, antipsychotics, or starting treatment for bipolar disorder or psychosis
  • ADHD or autism assessment/diagnosis, capacity, medico-legal, fitness-to-drive or firearms reports
  • Crisis or emergency care, including thoughts of self-harm or suicide
  • Anyone under 18
  • Ongoing management of severe or complex mental illness — this belongs with your own GP and community mental health team

How it works

  1. Answer a short safety check, then complete PHQ-9 (mood) and GAD-7 (anxiety).
  2. Give your GP's details, or tell us you don't have a GP in Ireland.
  3. Have your consultation. Your doctor reviews your scores, checks your safety and agrees a plan with you.
  4. We can refer you to HSE SilverCloud, ask your GP to refer you to counselling (CIPC) or prescribe where appropriate.
  5. Your note and the agreed treatment are saved to your portal and sent to your GP.

Based on the Irish Medical Council Guide to Professional Conduct and Ethics, IMC guidance on telemedicine and the HSE model for mild to moderate mental health care in general practice.
