You are paying for a doctor's assessment, not for a medicine
A prescription is never guaranteed. The treating GP decides what is clinically appropriate for you.
In short: your fee buys an Irish-registered GP's clinical time and judgement. They may prescribe, recommend something else, or advise that you be seen in person. NOVAGP.IE does not sell, supply or dispense medicines.
What your fee actually pays for
Every fee on this website pays for a clinical assessment by an Irish-registered general practitioner — their time, their review of your history and answers, and their clinical decision. It is a professional service, not the purchase of a medicine. NOVAGP.IE does not sell, supply or dispense medicines of any kind.
A prescription is never guaranteed
Paying for an assessment does not entitle you to a prescription, to a particular medicine, or to a particular dose or quantity. The doctor may decide that no medicine is needed, that a different treatment is safer, that you need an examination or tests in person, or that you should be referred elsewhere. That is a normal and expected outcome of a consultation.
The doctor decides — independently
Prescribing decisions are made by the treating GP alone, using their clinical judgement and the Irish Medical Council's guidance on remote consultations and prescribing. No commercial target, marketing arrangement or patient request can influence that decision, and our clinicians are never paid per prescription issued.
What we can and cannot prescribe online
Some treatments are not clinically safe to decide on remotely and will not be prescribed online — including controlled drugs, and anything that needs a physical examination, monitoring or investigations we cannot arrange at a distance. If your request falls into that group, the doctor will tell you and explain what to do instead.
If the answer is no
You will always receive a written explanation of the decision, safety advice and, where relevant, a recommendation of where to go next — your own GP, an out-of-hours service, a pharmacy, or emergency care. You can ask questions about the decision or request a second opinion from another of our clinicians.
Refunds
Because the assessment itself is the service, the fee is not automatically refunded when no prescription is issued — the clinical work was still carried out. There is one clear exception: if we cannot assess you at all — for example the request is outside what we can safely handle online and no clinical review takes place — we refund the fee in full. Email admin@novagp.ie and we will review it.
Where a prescription goes
If a prescription is clinically appropriate, it is issued by the doctor and sent securely to your nominated Irish pharmacy through our administrative team. The medicine is dispensed and charged by that pharmacy, not by us. You never receive medicines from NOVAGP.IE.
Your safety comes first
We would rather decline a request than issue an unsafe prescription. If you feel unwell, if symptoms change or worsen, or if you are worried, contact your GP, an out-of-hours service, or emergency services on 112 or 999.
What you can always expect
