FAQ

Questions, answered

The things patients ask us most before their first consultation.

Who will I be speaking to?
An Irish-registered general practitioner on the Medical Council register. You'll see the GP's name on your booking confirmation.
Can I get a prescription?
Yes, where it is clinically appropriate. Your GP prescribes from the Irish and British formularies and the prescription is routed to your nominated pharmacy. Controlled drugs cannot be prescribed online.
Can I get a sick certificate?
Yes. If your GP agrees it is warranted, you'll receive a dated certificate as a PDF by email and in your portal, covering work, school or college.
Can you refer me to a specialist?
Your GP can write a referral letter to a public or private Emergency Department, or an open letter to a private specialist in the relevant speciality.
What if I need to be examined in person?
Your GP will tell you plainly and direct you to the right place. Safety comes before convenience, every time.
Do you offer refunds?
If a smart prescription is declined on clinical grounds you are refunded in full. Other refunds are reviewed case by case by the admin team.
Is my data safe?
Your records are encrypted in transit and at rest, stored in the EU, and handled under Irish and EU GDPR. You can download or request deletion of your data at any time.
Do you take medical cards or health insurance?
NOVAGP.IE is a private service and is not part of the medical card scheme. Some insurers reimburse online GP visits — your receipt is always available in your portal.
