Orforglipron, branded Foundayo, is a once-daily GLP-1 weight loss tablet from Eli Lilly. It was approved by the US FDA in April 2026 and authorised by the UK MHRA in August 2026, but it is not yet licensed for prescription in Ireland. Irish patients can access licensed weight management today — Wegovy, Mounjaro and Saxenda — through a registered online GP service such as NOVAGP.IE.

What is Orforglipron and how does it work?

Orforglipron is an oral medication for chronic weight management developed by Eli Lilly.

It belongs to the GLP-1 receptor agonist class. It mimics the natural gut hormone that regulates appetite and slows stomach emptying, so you feel fuller for longer and eat less without constant willpower battles.

Unlike semaglutide or liraglutide, Orforglipron is a non-peptide small molecule. That chemistry means it survives digestion, so it works as an ordinary tablet with no injection, no refrigeration and — unlike oral semaglutide (Rybelsus) — no strict fasting window before or after the dose.

In the ATTAIN-1 phase 3 trial, adults on the highest dose lost an average of around 12% of body weight (about 27 lb / 12 kg) over the study period.
