Repeat of an inhaler you already use, with control check. Reviewed by an Irish-registered GP for €25 — no appointment needed.
Running out of a reliever or preventer inhaler is not something to leave until Monday. If your asthma is stable and you are asking for an inhaler you already use, answer a short control questionnaire and an Irish-registered GP reviews it against your reported symptoms before issuing a repeat prescription.

€25 per request, refunded in full if the GP decides a consultation is needed instead.
How quickly
Reviewed the same working day for requests submitted before 5pm, Monday to Friday. Weekend requests are reviewed the next working day.
Who this is suitable for
- You are aged 16 or over and living in Ireland
- You are asking for an inhaler you already use, at the same dose
- Your asthma has been stable for the last 3 months
- You use your reliever inhaler 3 times a week or less
- You have had no hospital or A&E attendance for asthma in the last 12 months
- You are using your reliever more than 3 times a week, or it is not helping
- Symptoms are waking you at night
- You have needed steroid tablets for asthma in the last 3 months
- You want to start a new inhaler or change dose
- You are breathless at rest or struggling to complete a sentence — this is an emergency, call 112 or 999

When we'll say no
These answers stop the request and route you to a consultation instead.
- Poor control — a consultation is safer than a repeat.
- Prescribing in pregnancy or while breastfeeding needs a consultation.
- These symptoms need to be assessed by a doctor directly.

- Can I get a repeat inhaler prescription online in Ireland?
- Yes, if your asthma is stable and you are asking for an inhaler you already use at the same dose. An Irish-registered GP reviews your answers before the prescription is issued.
- What does a repeat inhaler prescription cost?
- €25 for the GP review and prescription. Your pharmacy charges separately for the inhaler. If the GP declines because your asthma control needs a proper review, the €25 is refunded.
- Why was my request declined?
- The most common reason is reliever use more than three times a week, or night-time symptoms. Both suggest your asthma is not controlled, and a repeat inhaler on its own would not be safe care. We route you to a €39 consultation instead.
- Can I get a spacer or a new type of inhaler?
- A spacer can be added to your prescription. Starting a new inhaler or changing dose needs a consultation so the GP can check your technique and control properly.
- What if I am having an asthma attack right now?
- Do not use this service. Take your reliever as prescribed and call 112 or 999 if you are breathless at rest, cannot complete a sentence, or your reliever is not working.
