What we'll ask you
14 short questions, most of them yes or no. Your answers go straight to the reviewing GP.
- How long have you had difficulty with erections, and did it start gradually or suddenly?
- Do you still get morning erections?
- Have you tried any ED medicine before? Which, what dose, and how well did it work?
- Which treatment would you prefer?
- Do you take nitrates (GTN spray, isosorbide) or nicorandil?
- Any chest pain on exertion or during sex, breathlessness, or a heart attack or stroke in the last 6 months?
- Most recent blood pressure reading, if known
- Do you have diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol?
- Any sudden loss of vision in one eye, or a diagnosis of retinitis pigmentosa?
- Any history of an erection lasting more than 4 hours, sickle cell disease, leukaemia or myeloma?
- Is stress, anxiety, low mood or relationship difficulty a factor?
- Do you have any of: high fever, severe pain, breathlessness, confusion, or symptoms getting rapidly worse?
- List any drug allergies (or type 'none')
- Medicines you currently take (or type 'none')
When we'll say no
These answers stop the request and route you to a consultation instead.
- Nitrates with ED medicines can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure — absolutely contraindicated.
- Cardiac symptoms need assessment before ED treatment.
- These make PDE5 inhibitors unsuitable.
- Increased risk of priapism — needs review.
- These symptoms need to be assessed by a doctor directly.
