Struggling to lose weight?

Start your weight loss injections Ireland consultation online

Losing weight safely doesn't have to mean long clinic visits or waiting weeks for prescriptions.

Weight-loss injections belong to a class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists. They work by slowing stomach emptying and regulating appetite hormones, helping you feel full sooner and stay satisfied for longer.

These treatments are designed to support clinically significant weight loss when used in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise. For best results, our doctors create a personalised plan that includes nutrition, activity, and ongoing medical supervision.

This is a medical weight management service designed for adults who are clinically overweight or obese. It is not suitable for cosmetic or minor weight loss.

To qualify for treatment, you must meet one of these

  • BMI ≥27 with weight-related medical conditions — such as high blood pressure, obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) or high cholesterol.
  • BMI ≥30, classed as clinically obese.

How weight loss injections work

They help to regulate your appetite and blood sugar levels so you feel fuller for longer and eat less.

Illustration of GLP-1 hormone signalling between the stomach and the brain

Reduce appetite

By slowing stomach emptying and signalling satiety to the brain, they make it easier to eat smaller portions and stay satisfied.

Regulate blood sugar levels

They stabilise glucose levels and reduce energy dips, which helps prevent cravings and overeating.

Sustainable weight loss

In clinical trials, patients lost up to 15–22% of body weight when used alongside healthy eating and regular activity.

Weekly injection

Once-weekly appetite-regulating injection

A once-weekly receptor agonist designed to support medically supervised weight loss. It mimics a natural hormone that helps regulate appetite and food intake, slowing digestion and prolonging the feeling of fullness.

In clinical studies, patients lost an average of 15% of their body weight over time when combined with a balanced diet and regular physical activity. Suitable for adults with BMI ≥30, or BMI ≥27 with weight-related health concerns such as high blood pressure or cholesterol.

Dual-acting

Dual-acting incretin therapy

The first dual GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist, making it one of the most advanced and effective weight loss treatments available. By targeting two key hormones that regulate appetite and metabolism, this treatment helps reduce hunger, increase fullness, and improve blood sugar control.

Clinical trials have shown that patients using dual GLP-1s achieved up to a 22.5% reduction in body weight, making it the most potent injectable weight-loss medication to date. It is taken once weekly via injection.

Your doctor will decide which class suits your history, tolerance and goals.

Your options explained

Wegovy, Mounjaro or Saxenda — the plain-English version

You can tell us which one you would prefer when you book, or choose "I need to discuss the options" and your GP will guide you.

Weekly injection

Wegovy (semaglutide)

How often do I inject?
One injection once a week, on the same day each week.
When will I see results?
Appetite usually settles in the first few weeks. The dose is stepped up roughly every 4 weeks, and most people see meaningful weight change from around month 3, with average loss of about 15% of body weight over a full course.
What side effects should I expect?
Most common: nausea, constipation or diarrhoea, burping and tiredness, usually strongest just after a dose increase. Rarely: gallbladder problems or pancreatitis — stop and contact us if you get severe tummy pain.
Weekly injection · Dual Action

Mounjaro (tirzepatide)

How often do I inject?
One injection once a week, on the same day each week.
When will I see results?
Steady dose steps about every 4 weeks. Trials report up to a 22.5% reduction in body weight over a full course, making it the most potent injectable option currently available.

Most common: nausea, reduced appetite, diarrhoea or constipation, indigestion. Rarely: gallbladder problems or pancreatitis. Severe or persistent vomiting always needs a GP review.
Daily injection

Saxenda (liraglutide)

How often do I inject?
One injection every day, at roughly the same time daily — not weekly.
When will I see results?
The dose is increased weekly over the first month. Appetite change is often noticed early, with average loss of around 5–10% of body weight by month 6 when combined with diet and activity.
What side effects should I expect?
Most common: nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhoea, headache and injection-site reactions. Rarely: gallstones or pancreatitis.

Cost and what we do not prescribe

  • These weight-loss medicines are not reimbursable by the HSE — they are not covered by the Medical Card, GMS or the Drugs Payment Scheme for weight management, so you pay the full pharmacy price yourself.
  • We do not prescribe Ozempic for weight loss. It is licensed for type 2 diabetes, and we keep supply for the patients who need it.
