Childhood vaccination schedule in Ireland
An age-by-age guide to the routine HSE infant and school vaccination programmes, including the schedule change from 1 October 2024.

This page is general information only. Arrange routine or missed childhood vaccines with your child's own GP or practice nurse. School vaccines are arranged through the HSE school immunisation programme.
Important schedule change
Choose by your child's date of birth
Ireland has two childhood schedules. Children born on or after 1 October 2024 receive chickenpox vaccination and a fourth 6-in-1 dose. Always use the schedule matching your child's date of birth.

Born on or after 1 October 2024
2 months
6-in-1, PCV, MenB and rotavirus
The rotavirus vaccine is given by mouth; the others are injections.
4 months
6-in-1, MenB and rotavirus
The second visit continues the primary course.
6 months
6-in-1 and PCV
The third 6-in-1 dose and a further pneumococcal dose are given.
12 months
MMR, MenB and chickenpox (varicella)
Chickenpox vaccination is included for this birth-date group.
13 months
6-in-1, MenC and PCV
This group receives a fourth 6-in-1 dose instead of Hib/MenC.

Born before 1 October 2024
2 months
6-in-1, PCV, MenB and rotavirus
The rotavirus vaccine is given by mouth; the others are injections.
4 months
6-in-1, MenB and rotavirus
The second visit continues the primary course.
6 months
6-in-1, PCV and MenC
This completes the primary 6-in-1 course.
12 months
MMR and MenB
The first MMR dose protects against measles, mumps and rubella.
13 months
Hib/MenC and PCV
Booster vaccines complete the infant schedule.
School programme
Vaccines offered at school
Junior infants (usually 4–5 years)
4-in-1 booster and a second measles-containing vaccine
Children born before 1 October 2024 are offered MMR. Those born from that date are offered MMRV, which also covers chickenpox.
First year of post-primary school (usually 12–14 years)
HPV, Tdap and MenACWY
These are offered through the HSE school immunisation programme.
In most areas these are given at school. Local arrangements can differ, including GP delivery of junior-infant vaccines in some counties.
If your child missed a vaccine
Most missed vaccines can be caught up. Contact your child's GP surgery to review their record and arrange the correct doses. For school vaccination records or local programme questions, contact your HSE Local Immunisation Office.
Before the appointment
- Bring your child's vaccination record if you have it.
- Tell the GP or nurse about previous reactions or current illness.
- Ask which catch-up doses are needed rather than restarting a course yourself.
- Seek medical advice if your child is unwell and you are unsure whether to attend.
