Online GP for skin rashes, eczema and acne
Skin complaints are one of the best uses of a video consultation because your GP can see the problem directly. Eczema, acne, fungal infections, hives and insect bites can usually be assessed and treated remotely.

What your GP can do
- Examine the rash on video and in photographs you upload before the call
- Prescribe emollients, steroid creams, antifungals or acne treatment
- Start and monitor longer acne courses with appropriate safety checks
- Refer to dermatology with a written referral letter when needed
- Flag any lesion that needs urgent in-person or specialist assessment
When to seek urgent care instead
- A rash with fever that does not fade when pressed under a glass
- Rapid facial or lip swelling, or difficulty breathing
- A mole that is changing shape, colour, size, or is bleeding
- Widespread blistering or skin peeling

- Should I send photos before my appointment?
- Yes — clear, well-lit photos taken in daylight help enormously. You can upload them securely to your patient record before the consultation.
- Can you refer me to a dermatologist?
- Yes. A structured referral letter can be issued and sent to the clinic or consultant of your choice, or to your own GP for onward referral.
- Can you treat acne long term?
- Standard topical and oral acne treatments can be started and reviewed online. Treatments that need specialist monitoring are referred appropriately.
